Halloween Readings for Con B2
Each student reads ONLY the letter he or she was assigned in class, A, B, C or D. (If you were absent, read only 1, whichever you want!) Do the vocabulary exercises and formulate the questions about another reading from the question cues. Come prepared to explain your reading, including any new vocabulary, to students who have another reading and ask them questions about their readings.This way, you will all have a complete picture 0f the origins and evolution of Halloween.

B1.3
1st class consisted of a "getting to know each other" activity, general Introduction, a Language Learning Questionnaire, the vocabulary on p.8 and the Listening about 2 students discussing their 1st week at the University.
Homework is to complete the questionnaire in writing to hand in and to do the reading and accompnying exercises on pp. 6 and 7. :)

Spain in Recent US News
The US media don’t usually publish many articles about specific European countries. However in recent years, newpapers like the NY Times and important blogs or online papers like the Huffington Post have published articles about Spain. Here are some examples:

VOCABULARY
Quip = short and often sarcastic or clever remark or observation
Gaffe-prone = with a tendency to put his foot in his mouth
Gaffe = metadura de pata verbal ; prone = tendente a
Time warp = unreal illusion about time. Someone who lives in a time warp thinks he is living at another historical moment. We also say “to be trapped in a time warp.”
To fact –check = to research data or statements before you used them as facts.
