Con B1

We are going to do Stereotypes, as this topic came up spontaneously in the first Con B1 class and the following exercises are interesting for Conversation:

    Hi Kate!!!

I'm here doing the exercise! the only way I found to post is here, in 'comments'.

First of all: a summary of yesterday.

We started the class talking about your theater goup who is called 'Madrid Palyers', we don't know about the play and have to find the information here, in the blog!
Also said you wanted the blog to be an interactive space to exchange information and exercises. Then talked about a lot of things like cinema and music.
Next we make the exercise about stereotypes with de photocopies and make a debate about different societys and their prejudices (UK, USA and Spain, reasons about stereotypes, how it works in Sapin...)
To finish we did a 'listening' exercise: listen the discourse and relate it to the photo.
    Here are the answers: 1 speech-photo D;
    2 Sp-Ph A; 3 Sp-Ph C; 4 Sp-Ph E; 5 Sp-Ph B.

  2. Hi!!

I don´t have only one favourite song, I like several kind of music however I have to recommend someone, further the classical jazz or r&b, is Grace of Jeff Buckley.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3adFWKE9JE

I like the music, because is sad and cheerful, and I think the voice of Buckley is very special. It is pitty that he died so younger.

Another kind of music I like, in particulary in quite time or for to work, is brazilian music like Stan Getz or Joao Gilberto. They made an album with the typical song of bossa nova: The girl of ipanema, doralice. You can hear the Album in spotify: The Bossa Nova Albums.

    Good Night for everybody

  3. Hi Kate and classmates!

I'll see you tomorrow but now I'm going to summarize our last English class or same points I keep in my mind.

The main subject we were working on was "The stereotypes" that are present in our society and that can be harmful or harmless for us. In my opinion, it was an interesting topic in order to know our opinion and to learn useful vocabulary about describing people and cultures.

On the other hand, I remember the beautiful song "Sitting on the dock of the bay" which expresses freedom and emotions.

    Greetings to everyone!;)

  4. Hi!
This is my Extremoduro´s favourite song:

This is my favourite song because its lyrics are really good, full of message. I recommend you to listen it carefully. On the other hand, it remembers me when I was younger.

I think when I get married I´ll use this song instead the typical wedding song!!

  5. Hi to everybody,
One of my favourite songs is "The show must go on" interpreted by Queen in 1991:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ADh8Fs3YdU

Firstly, the melody and more precisely guitar's part solo are so lively and penetrating that you could not imagine the depressing message of the song.
Actually, the charismatic Freddy Mercury, the singer's band, died just one month after the recording and that's why we can consider is a farewell' song dedicated to the fans. However, the lyrics are full of metaphors about life: as an example in the title "the show" means in reality "life"... In my opinion, this poetic song is well-written and can give us energy to fight.
In the end, it remembers me a legendary french' singer who had an incredible voice and unfortunately couldn't become very famous because of his death at the age of 24 after lots of years fighting against cystic fibrosis. I recommend to listen this version of "the show must go on": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBNoMyEVpms

    Greetings to my B1 Class!
    Benjamin.

At the begining we talked about living in Madrid and if we like it or not. We discovered that Emilio, Kate and me are living in the same district: Hortaleza!
Kate told us the next wednesday at 5:00 PM it´s going to take place a party where we will could talk in english with another new people.
The rest of the class we told about adjectives that we thought that could describe people in Spain and in other different countries.

  7. Hi guys!
I don´t know where I must post today´s summary, so I´m going to put it here.

First of all, Emilio, we´ve missed you, your presence was necessary at party!
But I´m gonna be good and telling you what you´ve missed.
Today we ´ve made a dialogue in pairs about renting a room and try to persuade a friend to move with you. I was with Laura and she has rejected me all time.
We were talking about positives and negatives things of a neighborhood, like to be noise, lively, quiet, good for shopping or rough (Little hard to live in there)
We didn´t have so much time today, so we did quickly a listening about differents aspects of multicultural society ( different kind of food and ways of thinking) and comment all the advantages of this question.
Finally, we went to the party and we were talking with other american students. I´m not going to detail ‘the secrets of the party’, it´s better to comment it on Monday all of us together. (We´ll see if we want to tell ‘the absentees’ our experiences) ;)
    Have a great weekend!
    Carlota
