C 1 and B2 (may be a little difficult) Humorous video clips for vacation UPDATED

I told you I'd be posting something entertaining or these days. I've decided to start with  humourous video clips I have buried in my blog. And go to Con C1 Protest songs for update with Pablo's song.

1. This videoclip in with Orson Welles and another actor talking about a friend. It's good for personality description, It has the useful expression "an artistic streak" (una vena artística and it's  funny.
There is something that they DON'T say about their recently deceased friend ( because they're British) but which is very obvious. What is it???  Of course, they are SUCH good actors!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb7uKhI7uqU&feature=PlayList&p=A77AD4D43D39C81D&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=24

2. Now for some contrast, a comic scene from "Friends" with some good American actors

Very funny. Robin Williams puts on a Spanish accent. Subtitles offered by clicking onto letter are TERRIBLE. Don't use them.

Important word : gynecologist (ginecólogo)

Pun ( play on words) You're in Sample (a town)
                                Urine sample (muestra de orina

3. Political satire : The previous option - from last year - is no longer available, so I'm posting 2 shows of Jon Stewart, who is like the US version of el Gran Wyoming! the subtitles are PERFECT.

Here he is laughing at the questionable things FOX News says to discredit different protestors, like saying that theyblock or slow down traffic-- especially on Black Friday- or that football players wear shirts with protest slogans instead of just playing football. CLICK HERE

indict= acusar

4. FINALLY, THIS IS NOT HUMOR AT ALL BUT IT'S A RAP AND THE THEME REMINDED ME OF SOME OF YOUR PROTEST SONGS. Some of the English subtitles in the captions are ridiculously wrong but the majority is correct enough to give you the idea.
 vocab. notes

grudge = resentimiento, rencor

BTW, I still  haven't received several lyrics and links to post!  ;)

2.  Caesar Salad -     Laura Hernández Mejía
     Ingredients:

6 cloves garlic, peeled

3/4 cup mayonnaise

5 anchovy fillets, minced

6 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese.

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon lemon juice

salt

anchovies, 2 tablespoons of the Parmesan cheese, mustard, and lemon

     - Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cut the remaining 3 cloves of
garlic into quarters, and add to hot oil. Cook and stir until brown, and then
remove garlic from pan. Add bread cubes to the hot oil. Cook, turning
frequently, until lightly browned. Remove bread cubes from oil, and season
     with salt and pepper.

- Place lettuce in a large bowl. Toss with dressing, remaining Parmesan cheese, and seasoned bread cubes.

Carlos
3. Chicken, red pepper and brie puff pie

Ingredients:

6 boneless skinless chicken breasts
½ lemon, grated zest and juice
2 tablespoons of fresh thyme leaves
1 tablespoons of olive oil
salt and pepper
1 can of red peppers
200g of brie
pepper
salt
1 egg, beaten, to glaze
3 tablespoons of grated parmesan

Recipe:

Cut each chicken breast almost in half lengthways and open out to form a large flat fillet. Put each fillet between plastic film and bat out with a rolling pin to flatten. Put in a shallow dish and sprinkle over the lemon zest, juice, salt, pepper, thyme leaves and oil. You can now cook the chicken straight away or leave the fillets to marinate for up to a day covered with plastic film.

Heat a large non-stick frying pan or a griddle pan until really hot. Fry the chicken (you will need to do this in batches), turning often, for about 8-10 minutes until browned and just cooked. Remove and leave to cook.

Drain the peppers, cut in half and pat dry on kitchen paper. Slice the brie. Roll out the pastry to a 35cm/14 in square. Arrange three chicken fillets along the centre third almost to the edges. Cover with half the peppers, then all the brie, followed by the rest of the peppers and finally the remaining chicken fillets, seasoning between the layers as you go.

Brush the pastry with beaten egg. Draw up the two long edges over the filling and pinch together following the shape of the filling. Seal the ends, then trim off the excess pastry with scissors or a knife. Pinch the pastry join edges with your fingers, like you would a pasty.

Carefully transfer the pie to a damp baking sheet. Brush liberally with egg and sprinkle with parmesan. The pie can now be chilled for up to 24 hours.

Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6 from cold. Bake for 30-35 minutes until the pastry is crisp and golden. Cool for 5 minutes, then transfer to a serving plate and cut into thick slices to serve.

4. Cristeam's recipe:

My recipe is the national and most popular dish in Venezuela: it's called Arepas

Ingredients:

We need flour, oil, water, salt and butter

Preparation:

First at all we have to put the flour with a little of salt and butter in a bowl then we'll put the water inside and mix them for 4 minutes until you can't feel any flour lumps . Once done it we'll wait for five minutes in order to set the mixture, After we are going to make little balls with the mixture and put them on a pan or skillet with a little  hot oil, we'll cook them for 5 minutes for each side and finally for eating the arepas, you can open in the middle and fill with any food, but the most popular ingredients to fill up are yellow or white cheese with butter, meat, beans, etc.

5. Gilberto's  recipe:

Lasagna with Spinach

ingredients:

- sheets of lasagne
- fresh spinach
- 1 onion
- seedless raisins
- fresh cheese
- grated cheese
- whole milk
- Flour
- butter
- Nutmeg
- Salt and pepper
- Olive oil

preparation:

In the first place will cook the pasta sheets in a frying pan with a little oil and salt. And let it cook for about 15 minutes.

After we saute ( or brown) spinach with raisins and crumbled cheese.
Then, we make the bechamel; for it in a frying pan with a little hot oil, we add the flour and stir, while we take the finely chopped onion and stir milk and let us stir until creamy.

We add a pinch of salt and pepper.

Now assemble lasagna, pasta with a layer, more spinach, bechamel and more pasta again; as many times as you want.
as many times as possible.
6.  Jesus: Pasta Carbonara

First of all, we must fry bacon with a little bit of butter in a frying pan during more or less ten minutes.
Beat eggs, parmesan chesse and black pepper.
Me must cook the pasta during ten minutes with a little bit of salt.
When the pasta is ready, we drain the pasta in a collander.
Finally we stir the eggs, parmesan chesse and black pepper with the pasta in the frying pan where we did the bacon.
The most important thing of this recipe is that we musn't use cream, like a lot of people think. The original "carbonara recipe" doesn't have cream.

7. GRANDMOTHER`S CAKE Esther

INGREDIENTS

·         4 eggs
·         1 yogurt
·         1 empty yogurt cup of oil
·         1 empt yogurt cup of sugar
·         3 empty yogurt cups of flour
·         1 sachet of yeast
·         lemon zest
·         a pinch of salt

PREPARING

1.      beat eggs with a pinch of salt in a bowl. Then to add the yogurt, the sugar and a lemon zest.
2.      Stir everthing and add the flour and yeast.
3.      To prepeare the mold, first to cover the mold with oil and sprinkle a Little flour, add the dough and sprinkle a Little sugar.

4.      To put the mold in the oven 30 minutes at 200 degrees.

8. Pancakes (fast and easy):  María Jesús

Ingredients:
-4 cups of flour
-1 and 1/2 teaspoonful of yeast
-2 Spoonful of sugar
-A pinch of salt
-3 and 1/2 cups of milk
-2 eggs
-25grs of melted butter

Way of cooking:
Mix in a bowl all the ingredients and whip until making a dough, then let the dough stand for 30 minutes.
Prepare a hot pan with butter, and to MAKE the pancakes you just have to pour a little dough with  care in the hot pan (a ladleful for each pancake).
You will know when you have to turn the pancake when in it many bubbles appear!
Repeat the procedure until you finish the dough.
When you finish the dough and all the pancakes you can serve it with all kind of syrup (chocolate syrup, meaple syrup...) than you like, cream and even, if you want something more healthy, with some fruit.

Enjoy!

9. Belén's Cheesecake
Ingredients:
María biscuits, mashed into crumbs
a little butter
1 package of Philadelphia cream cheese
3 eggs
1 cup sugar
a little berry jam

1.      1.  Mix together the butter and chopped biscuit crumbs. Press the mixture into the bottom of the base.
2.       2. Beat the Philadelphia and sugar. Add the eggs and mix it until they are blended.
3.       Pour it in the base with the biscuits and take it stand in the fridge.
4.       4. Whip berries jam on the top of the cake and is ready to be eaten.

Conversation B1 For Wed. Last class b4 Xmas

Hi

1st hour: The 3 people who didn't give their recipes will give them.

We will answer these questions about Christmas.

Is Christmas for you primarily:

a religious or spiritual holiday?

a family holiday?

an "eat-drink-and be-merry" holiday?

a seasonal and winter break holiday?

Why?

Do you celebrate only the 3 Wise Kings or Santa Claus and December 25th as well?

Do you have a tree or a Nativity scene or both in your house?

Do you think that knowledge of other customs like the tree and Santa have complicated Christmas for Spaniards or made it richer?

Do you think that Christmas has become too commercialized and too associated with shopping, and material gifts, especially for children perhaps? If you think so, why has this happened in your opinion? What can we do if anything to remedy this? To print  CLICK HERE

2nd hour : We will see a very funny scene from the movie Ghost associated with this topic.

Please print if you can: CLICK HERE
